Bristol City triumph and four more EFL bets to back this weekend

It’s been quite the week across the EFL. Newcastle United put six past QPR at Loftus Road, Colchester United came out on top in a thriller against Blackpool, and Derby County confounded football by continuing not to score in the Championship (363 minutes and counting).

So, ahead of another cracking weekend of fixtures in all three leagues, here are the five top tips Ladbrokes News have for punters across the land…

Bristol City v Derby County (Championship)

Derby fans have seen their side net just a single goal in seven Championship fixtures this season, with Nigel Pearson’s men currently on a four-game barren spell.

Conversely, the Robins have scored seven times in the last three games, with Chelsea loanee Tammy Abraham already boasting five more league goals than the Rams.

Three victories in five home games, including a 4-0 demolition of title challenging Huddersfield, matched with Derby’s dismal goal return means City should be backed to win to nil here.

Burton Albion v Brighton & Hove Albion (Championship)

Expect goals in this one. Burton have netted in eight of their last nine games and conceded in the same number of them. Brighton have scored three or more goals on four occasions this season, including winning a 4-2 thriller at Oxford’s Kassam Stadium.

And both sides have men you can more or less count on to find the net. The Brewers’ Jackson Irvine has scored four times in his last five Championship games, as has Seagulls’ midfield magician Anthony Knockaert.

Best Bet: Both Teams to Score @ 10/11

Chesterfield v Northampton Town (League One)

The Cobblers extended their unbeaten league run to an astonishing 29 games with last weekend’s comfortable 2-0 defeat of Walsall. So Rob Page’s men will be full of confidence travelling to Derbyshire to face a Chesterfield side with just a single point to show for their last four games.

However, Northampton have a habit of eking out victories, with 10 triumphs by a 2-1 scoreline in the 2015-16 season, while the Spireites have grabbed a goal in their most recent trio of losses.

Best Bet: Northampton to win 2-1 @ 10/1

Wycombe Wanderers v Stevenage (League Two)

We’ve given you one scoreline bet, but here’s another. Well, it’s more of a ‘nobody to score’ bet, but that’s unlikely to surprise anyone who’s watched these two in 2016.

The Boro have failed to score in three of their last six away games, while Wanderers 2-1 win over Grimsby last month is the only time they’ve netted more than a solitary goal in their last 18 home games.

But the hosts have made Adams Park a difficult place to score, conceding single figures in the last dozen on their own patch. Expect a bit of a stinker, basically.

Best Bet: 0-0 Draw @ 9/1

Exeter City v Plymouth (League Two)

The Grecians had the bragging rights last season with a pair of 2-1 wins over their Devon rivals. But expect roles to be reversed this weekend with Argyle in sensational form and Exeter stuttering.

The visitors have won six on the trot in League Two, while Exeter have lost five from seven. But while the 6/4 for an Argyle victory looks tempting, there’s better value elsewhere.

Of Argyle’s six home wins this season, they’ve only led at half-time in three of them, while Exeter have lost three League Two games having been ahead or level at the interval. The stats suggest another late Argyle win in this one, then.
