Wonderful Wednesday: How Twitter reacted to GB’s best night yet

It had been a steady start for the British contingent in Brazil this summer, but it all kicked into life on a super day of Olympic action which the great British public dubbed ‘ Wonderful Wednesday’.
The Brits soared up the medal table after a sterling day saw medals won across six different events.
As is the modern custom, Twitter suitable went into meltdown as Britain had its most successful day yet in Rio.
Chris Froome got things rolling shortly before 5pm, backing up his Tour de France victory with Bronze in the Men’s Time Trial.

Next up, at 19:29 came Steven Scott, who held his nerve in a shoot-off against compatriot Tim Kneale to claim Bronze in the double-trap shooting.

That really set things in motion, and just 17 minutes later, Joe Clarke landed GB’s second Gold of the tournament with a superb performance in the Canoe Slalom.
His performance seemed to please telly favourites Leon and June.

Judo took centre stage less than an hour later as the medal rush continued. Step forward Sally Conway, who claimed Bronze in the women’s 70kg.

With four medals on the board, Wednesday really did become wonderful when Jack Laugher and Chris Mears turned and twisted to Gold in the Men’s 3m Synchronized diving.
It was GB’s first ever diving Gold, and at the halfway stage, people couldn’t quite believe it…

As Lewis said, onto the Gymnastics where Max Whitlock looked to round off Wonderful Wednesday on a high in the men’s all round event.
And just under six hours since Froome secured bronze, so too did Whitlock who prevailed in a six-way battle to claim Britain’s first medal in the event since 1908!
