SPFL Fans’ Preview: Rangers fan eyeing up Premiership title tilt

It’s time for the latest in our line of Ladbrokes SPFL Fans’ Previews. In the build-up to the new campaign we’re asking a cross-section of passionate supporters how they think their side will get on and who’ll shine this season.
Today we hear the views of Paul Meikle who’s a lifelong Rangers fan. He will discuss how his beloved Gers will get on now they are back in the Premiership after a four year absence.
Here’s how he’s calling it…
The Club:
If you could sign one star from the past…
Brian Laudrup. No doubt about it. I’ve seen some tremendous players at Ibrox over the years, but Laudrup was an absolute magician.
Some teams couldn’t get near him. He beat some defenders so many times, they had to pay to get back into the game!
I’m most excited about this season because…
Some of our new signings. Barton and Kranjcar are the two big names signed so far but I think young Rossiter and Josh Windass will do very well for us.
Also great to be back playing the top teams especially Celtic, Aberdeen & Hearts. Looking forward to the four Old Firm games again.
I’m least excited about this season because…
Disappointed to be missing out on European football especially as we had a good chance to do it.
Saying that, it could be too soon for us to be playing back in Europe.
Another season under our belts should help. Very worried about our central defence as well. Kieran & Wilson together are not good enough.
Two songs that define your side?
Got to be careful here!! Penny Arcade and Simply the Best.
Although we need to improve to be singing the second song!
Actor that would play your gaffer in a film and why?
Really struggling with this one. I’ll go for Robert Duvall. He’s obviously a lot older than Warburton, but has that calm, focused way.
When he loses it, he really does though. I think Warburton might be like Walter Smith, come across all nicey nicey but behind closed doors, will blow a fuse!
Not sure if Duvall owns a Magic Hat though!
Key Player?
Nico Kranjcar. Class player who should be able to dictate a lot of games.
Weak links?
Rob Kiernan and Danny Wilson. Cup final proved this, very scary at the back!
Headline Generator?
Got to be Joey Barton. I’m positive he’ll try and nutmeg Scott Brown in the first Old Firm game and it’ll get messy!
Young player to watch this season?
Jordan Rossiter. By all accounts this lad is class with a bit of dig about him. Really looking forward to seeing this guy play.
League Predictions:
Your position?
If we can sign a good quality central defender and a striker before the season starts then I can honestly see us winning the league. If we don’t then I reckon third place is a more realistic target.
I know it looks like I am saying this through blue tinted specs but I think we have the best midfield in the country and we will always score goals. It’s the defence that worries me.
Title Winner?
Rangers if we sign the above. If not then Celtic. Aberdeen could have won the league the last two seasons but completely blew it.
2nd Place?
Bottom?
Kilmarnock
Top Goalscorer pick?
Leigh Griffiths. Very good goalscorer and high on confidence.
