Scott Pittman backing Ladbrokes League 1 to be close all year long

Last season was one to forget for Livingston, as they suffered relegation from the Ladbrokes Championship, but they’ve quickly moved on and have enjoyed a rampant start to life in a league Scott Pittman believes is wide-open.

Livi began life in Ladbrokes League 1 with a 5-1 hammering of Stranraer, before thumping Airdrieonians 4-2 a week later.

Despite those results leading many to tip the Lions for title success, Pittman – who got a double in the league opener – insists he and his teammates aren’t getting ahead of themselves.

Asked about their pre-season billing, Pittman exclusively told Ladbrokes News: “A lot of people are saying that and obviously we got off to a good start, but you never know, do you? Any team could get on a run.

The 24-year-old added: “It’s really just one game at a time. You can’t just say one team is going to run away with the league – there are going to be no easy games in this league.”

And whilst Pittman is staying open-minded on who’ll be lifting silverware in May, the midfielder admits it isn’t essential for Livi to get back to the second-tier at the first time of asking.

He said: “I don’t know if it’s essential, but obviously it’s our main aim.

With Alloa Athletic also responding to relegation by winning their opening two games in sublime fashion, Pittman is aware that promotion won’t be a given this season.

“It’s not going to be easy obviously – we know it’s going to be a tough league to get out of, but we definitely think we’re capable of doing that.

“The mood’s been quite positive. Obviously we’ve lost quite a few players and signed quite a few so there’s loads of new faces in the team.

Despite a busy summer with players coming and going, Pittman says the club haven’t been looking back on last season’s drop.

“We don’t want to dwell on the relegation, so we’ve just been getting on with it and looking forward to the new season, really.”

Pittman and Livi look to make it three wins from three this weekend, when they welcome Stenhousemuir to Tony Macaroni Arena, and the hosts are 9/20 favourites to maintain their perfect start to the new campaign.
