Ruwasi and Soapy Aitken my best chances to reach 3,000 at Ascot

Hollywood Road’s victory in a handicap at Friday’s evening meeting at Newmarket leaves me needing two winners on Shergar Cup day at Ascot to reach the milestone of 3,000 winners in Britain.

Having enjoyed one of my most famous days in racing at the same course when riding the Magnificent Seven 20 years ago, it will certainly be nice to post another milestone there. It is 6/1 that I get the two winners I need.

I have five rides across the card and these are what I believe are my three best chances of victory on the day:

Ruwasi (14:20) would be my best ride. He was very impressive last time in a three-runner race at Newmarket. He is a stayer with a turn of foot.

My second best chance is Soapy Aitken in the last race at 16:05. He has been unlucky on both of his starts this season.

Last time at Sandown he got squeezed for room at the crucial moment and didn’t like the soft ground. He is back on firm at Ascot with blinkers on and could run a big race.

Medicean Man in the opener at 13:15 is another who could go well. He loves Ascot. Perhaps he doesn’t have the best of draws, but if he returns to his old form he could run a huge race.

My other two rides are Two Jabs at 13:45, who is having a second crack at 2m and Majestic Moon at 14:55, who is stepping up to a mile for the first time in three years. He has slipped back to his last winning mark for this handicap.
