Odds slashed on cult Premier League icon joining Wolves

Wolverhampton Wanderers fans are enjoying the most exciting summer in the club’s history, with the club bringing in a raft of high-profile signings under new boss Walter Zenga. But they could be about to make their most exciting buy of the summer, in the shape of Mario Balotelli.

The 26-year old has been left out in the cold by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp, and it seems a case of ‘when’ not ‘if’ he’ll leave Anfield – having played just 16 Premier League games for the Reds since joining in 2014.

After a highly-publicised ‘career advice’ meeting with former boss Jose Mourinho, the most likely options for the enigmatic Italian are Wolves and ambitious League One outfit Port Vale, whose boss Bruno Ribeiro is a close friend of the new Manchester United boss.

Odds of a move to Molineux have been slashed from 20/1 to just 6/1, while Port Vale have emerged as shock second-favourites, with just 9/1 for the one-time Premier League winner to rock up at Vale Park this summer.

It’s 16/1 he returns to the top-flight with West Ham, while Celtic are dark horses to lure the cult hero north of the border at 33/1.

A Ladbrokes’ spokesperson said: “It’s quite a way down from World Cups to Wolves, but the hot-headed hitman needs to start somewhere.”

“Wherever he goes, there are sure to be fireworks. But they need to be on the pitch, not in his bathroom.”

Wolves head to Birmingham City for a crucial West Midlands derby on Saturday, with 9/5 for the men in gold-and-black to take all three points.

But will there be a bumper crowd at St Andrews to see the most stunning transfer coup of the summer?
