Man City slashed to be Premier League’s biggest summer spenders

Opportunistic punters are hoping to cash in on Paul Pogba’s continuously delayed move to Manchester United, by backing rivals City to be the summer’s biggest spenders.
If a deal is ever agreed between Pogba and the Reds, it’s unlikely any Premier League club would top the spending done at Old Trafford this summer.
But while the deal hangs in the balance, punters are trying their luck, and have forced the bookies to cut City’s odds from 9/1 to 5/1.
United are heavy favourites at 1/7, but that all rides on Pogba’s deal being finalised.
The spending war in London meanwhile looks to be heading Chelsea’s way, with the Blues Evens to be the club with the biggest outlay in the capital.
A Ladbrokes News spokesperson said: “Paul Pogba’s move to Manchester United has had more twists and turns than spaghetti junction, so we’re not surprised punters are chancing their arm by backing City to be the summer’s biggest spenders.”
City have already splurged under pep Guardiola, laying out nearly £43m on Schalke’s Leroy Sane, in addition to £22m on Ilkay Gundogan from Dortmund and a further £15m for Celta’s Nolito.
As it stands, the Citizens have spent some £14m more than United, who have paid out on just two signings so far – over £30m each on Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Eric Bailly.
Liverpool have gone big this summer too, splashing out £34m on Southampton’s Sadio Mane, plus £23m on Georginio Wijnaldum from Newcastle.
At 25/1 however, it seems the Reds are pretty much done shopping and won’t be this summer’s top spenders.
