Ladbrokes SPFL: Dundee United can edge a thriller against Queens

Dundee United

The 2016-17 Ladbrokes SPFL season kicks-off this weekend and throughout the campaign we’ll be picking out our best bets for the Championship, League 1 and League 2 action.

There’s plenty to get excited about with Hibernian’s clash against last season’s play-off sparring partners Falkirk and Edinburgh City’s first SPFL game against Forfar just some of the highlights.

Here’s how we’re calling it across the divisions…

Ladbrokes Championship

Second tier new boys Ayr are unbeaten in their last five against Raith and we fancy them to nick a point on their return to this level with the draw priced up at 12/5.

Over at Tannadice, Dundee United will be hoping for a positive start to their promotion bid. Queen of the South are the visitors and with both sides in decent scoring form the 9/4 for the Terrors to win and both teams to score appeals.

Andy Geggan has notched four goals in the League Cup for Dunfermline and he’s 21/10 to score at any time against a Dumbarton outfit enduring a torrid run of form.

Meanwhile, Hibernian are odds-on to leave Falkirk with three points although better value lies in the 9/2 for star man Jason Cummings to score the opener.

St. Mirren v Morton rounds off the action with 18/1 offered for the Buddies to win by the same 3-1 scoreline witnessed in April’s corresponding fixture.

Ladbrokes League 1

Big fancies Alloa have been in sparkling form in the lead-up to this league opener so it’s a no-brainer to back them at 21/20.

Brechin are another to add to the list with City 20/21 to beat a Stenhousemuir outfit smarting from four straight defeats in the cup.

East Fife have scored two or more goals in three of their last fixtures so we’re going to be adventurous and go for the Fifers -1 at 11/4 ahead of the visit of Alloa.

Livingston and Stranraer contested some goal-laded play-off contests at the back end of the last campaign and if you fancy a repeat then get on the 21/10 for over 3.5 goals at the Tony Macaroni.

Rounding things off, Queen’s Park and Airdrieonians contested a 3-3 thriller last month and it’s 23/10 for another draw. Let’s hope it’s equally as exciting.

Ladbrokes League 2

Stirling Albion proved something of a thorn in the side of Annan last season, going unbeaten in each of their four encounters. The visitors look decent value at 5/4 in the Draw No Bet market.

Berwick were 3-0 losers against Lowland League Spartans last time out so with that in mind it’s worth backing Arbroath at evens in what could be a scrappy affair.

Montrose have also lost to lower league opposition in recent weeks and that doesn’t bode well for The Gable Endies ahead of their trip to 8/13 Clyde

Cowdenbeath and Elgin looks a tough one to call with score draws the order of the day in the previous two meetings so the 5/2 for another stalemate appeals.

And finally, the fans will be out in force at Edinburgh City for their first SPFL game against Forfar. The cups have been a baptism of fire for the capital club with five straight defeats in all competitions.

Athletic have fared marginally better so we’re going for a 1-0 win at 15/2.
