La Liga Summer Signings Part One: Who are the standout buys in Spain?

| 17.08.2016

We’re just days away from the beginning of the new La Liga campaign, and in preparation for what’s expected to be another tense season at both ends of the table, we’ve highlighted one key signing from each club in Spain’s top division.

Alaves’ most notable of 17 signings is Christian Santos who arrives from NEC Nijmegen, where he scored 39 goals in 64 league appearances for the Dutch side.

Athletic Bilbao

Manager Ernesto Valverde is yet to make a single transfer, but the return of 23-year-old Guillermo Fernandez – who spent last season on loan at Leganes – is sure to excite fans at San Mames Stadium.

Atletico Madrid

Last season’s Champions League runners-up have been busy in this transfer window, adding depth in every area. But their standout buy has to be Kevin Gameiro, who arrived from Europa League winners Sevilla for £28m.

Barcelona snapped up Samuel Umtiti for just £21m from Lyon following the centre-back’s successful Euro 2016 campaign. Expect big things.

The most exciting player to arrive at Betis in this transfer window has to be Antonio Sanabria from Roma. The forward spent last season on loan at Sporting Gijon, scoring 11 league goals in 27 starts.

Celta Vigo

Manager Eduardo Berizzo will be hoping new signing Facundo Roncaglia can fit straight into a defence which boasted the best record in Spain last year.

Deportivo la Coruna

Manchester City newboy Marlos Moreno will spend the next year developing his game in Spain, much to the excitement and delight of Deportivo fans.

Eibar fans will be praying that this will be the year former Manchester United reject Bebe finally proves why (oh, why) Sir Alex Ferguson dished out a reported £7m on his services.

Espanyol new boy Leo Baptistao already has 18 La Liga goals to his name at the age of just 22, but the Brazilian will be looking to reach double figures in the division for the first time in his career.

The £3.4m signing of Ecuadorian striker Jose Angulo last week will be considered a real coup for Granada, given that the 21-year-old was linked with a move to the Premier League.
