Is star Serie A striker set to make a new home at West Ham?

Published:

With West Ham United competing on both domestic and European fronts this season, Slaven Bilic has been hard at work in the transfer market, bringing in five new faces.

But the signing of the summer at the Olympic Stadium could be yet to come, with the Irons reportedly closing in on Italy striker Eder.

The 29-year-old is currently in the midst of a long-term loan at Inter Milan, though it has been at parent club Sampdoria where the talented forward has enjoyed his best form.

Eder netted 12 times in 19 games for I Blucerchiati last season before his mid-campaign switch to Inter.

There’s also no doubt the former Frosinone man can perform on the big stage, having produced a string of impressive displays for Italy at Euro 2016, including a superbly-taken winner to beat Sweden in the group stage.

While the Hammers racked up a good Premier League goalscoring total in 2015-16 with 65 strikes, their midfield – and not an underwhelming strike force – was to thank. Neither Diafra Sakho nor Enner Valencia got more than five top-flight goals, while on-loan Emmanuel Emenike failed to net once in 13 league outings.

That means a striker with Eder’s pedigree could be a crucial addition for the east London outfit. And with Transfermarkt.co.uk valuing the player at £10.63m, the potential transfer fee will surely be within Bilic’s budget.

It’s 11/4 that West Ham break into the Premier League’s top-six this season, while 8/1 says they guarantee Champions League football with a top four spot.

The Irons begin the season with a visit to Stamford Bridge, with 9/2 for an away victory. If they can secure a deal for one of Italian football’s most skilled strikers, the odds above could all look extremely appealing.
