Countdown Boosts: We’re enhancing Arsenal to go goal crazy

Published:

The new Premier League is just two days away, and as our series of Countdown Boosts nears its end, today we’re focusing on last season’s runners-up, Arsenal.

Finishing second was, statistically at least, an improvement for Arsene Wenger’s men, but the manner in which it came about, plus the lack of a major trophy, left Gooners feeling unfulfilled once more.

Midfield enforcer Granit Xhaka has been the stand-out signing at the Emirates this summer, alongside Rob Holding and Takuma Asano, but crucially stars such as Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez remain.

With all of Arsenal’s attacking prowess still on the books, the Gunners should be well placed to improve on last season’s slightly lacklustre campaign.

Defensive worries may linger, but offensively Wenger’s men should be feared yet again, and it’s the attack which takes the focus of today’s Premier League Countdown Boosts…

08:00-12:00: Arsenal to score 80 or more Premier League goals was 6/1, NOW 8/1

Arsenal haven’t achieved this target for seven seasons, but they’re never too far away, netting at least 63 or more since 1999-2000 and at least 71 in four of the last six campaigns.

If Sanchez can find the form from his first year at the Emirates, and Olivier Giroud avoids a barren spell, the enhanced odds of 8/1 could be very rewarding come May.

12:00-15:00: Any Arsenal player to be Premier League Top Goalscorer was 7/1, NOW 9/1

The Gunners are no strangers to seeing one of their own win the Golden Boot, with Thierry Henry achieving the accolade four times.

Robin van Persie also won the award in 2012, and with reports suggesting Sanchez is set to feature in a more out-and-out striker role this term, is it the Chilean’s year to emulate those two former Gunners? Or can Giroud sustain his goalscoring ways over an entire campaign?

15:00-18:00: Arsenal to beat Tottenham both Home and Away was 7/2, NOW 5/1

Having snatched second place on the final day of the season, Arsenal once again spent the summer with an extra spring in their north London step.

The Red half last did the double over their local rivals in 2013-14, and after losing only once in five subsequent meetings, recent history suggests if any team will do the north London double this term, it’s Arsenal.

18:00-22:00: Arsenal to be Premier League Highest Scoring Team was 9/2, NOW 6/1

Arsene Wenger’s charges were just six goals off the top scorers last season, despite lacking their usual cutting edge at times.

Having added Xhaka for some midfield energy, while keeping hold of Ozil, Sanchez et al, we’re boosting the Gunners outdo Man City and the rest in the battle for be this season’s top scoring team.
