Countdown Boosts: Tottenham and Harry Kane enhanced to succeed

Published:

For much of last season, Tottenham played arguably the best football in the Premier League under Mauricio Pochettino. Having kept hold of their star men this summer, while adding a couple of talented acquisitions, is this finally Spurs’ year?

A slow start and a dismal finish bookended what was largely a superb year at White Hart Lane, with Spurs regularly producing scintillating football with a young squad.

Despite falling to third on the final day, one aim was achieved last term, and that was securing their place back in the Champions League.

But it’s the league title Spurs’ arguably want most, and having snapped up Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama this summer, they’re better prepared than ever before to launch a title tilt, and maybe, just maybe, finish above Arsenal.

So as part of our series of Premier League Countdown Boosts, we’re offering these enhancements on Tottenham today…

08:00-12:00: Tottenham to win their first 3 games was 5/1, NOW 7/1

Pochettino must have been quietly pleased when the fixture lists were released, with Spurs’ handed a trip to Everton plus two home games in their opening trio.

First up is a trip to Goodison and an Everton who have endured a disgruntled summer trying to keep hold of John Stones (unsuccessfully) and Romelu Lukaku (successfully… so far).

Tottenham then welcome Crystal Palace to White Hart Lane, before Jurgen Klopp takes his Liverpool side to north London.

The tie with Liverpool could be a tough one, but having dropped crucial points early on last season, Pochettino will be desperately urging his team to get off to a successful start this time around.

12:00-15:00: Tottenham to be top at Christmas was 8/1, NOW 10/1

Now if you fancy Spurs to come flying out of the blocks in their first three games, then maybe you’ll back them to be top come Christmas.

With another year under Pochettino’s intense style under their belts, plus a couple of savvy acquisitions, there’s plenty of reason to back to Spurs to celebrate the holidays at the top.

15:00-18:00: Tottenham to finish above Arsenal was 6/4, NOW 2/1

We know this is a sore point for the white half of north London, but Spurs were oh so close to finally finishing above Arsenal last season.

Pochettino’s men ran out of steam in the final stretch, failing to win their last four fixtures, but having added Janssen and Wanyama, Spurs have added crucial depth and quality, while seeing the Gunners suffer another wave of injury blows.

Is this Tottenham’s year to finally reign in north London for the first time since 1995?

18:00-22:00: Harry Kane to be Top Premier League Goalscorer was 6/1, NOW 8/1

Having proven with aplomb last term that he is anything but a one-season wonder, Harry Kane is back to lead the line once again.

Last season’s top scorer hammered in 25 goals en route to the Premier League’s Golden Boot, and with the support of Dutchman Janssen to call upon this time around, Kane should be firmly in contention for the top goalscorer accolade once again.
