Could Pienaar’s Sunderland arrival spark more Moyes reunions?

David Moyes has made his fifth signing since taking over at Sunderland, as Steven Pienaar today joins Papy Djilobodji, Donald Love, Paddy McNair and Adnan Januzaj. And given that the Scottish manager has already reunited with four players – it made sense for us to look at who else from Moyes’ Christmas card list can expect a phone call before the transfer window slams shut.

Leon Osman

Osman represented Moyes at Everton a staggering 284 times in the Premier League and given Moyes’ habit of resigning players – it wouldn’t be a shock if the former Toffees man moved to the North East.

At 35, his age may be of concern to Black Cats’ fans, but there’s no disputing the ability and experience in the top-flight that Osman possesses.

Victor Anichebe

Though he’s never really lived up to his full potential, Anichebe has played in the Premier League on 183 occasions, boasting six international caps for Nigeria.

The 28-year-old striker was sold after the Moyes era at Goodison Park, and with Sunderland heavily reliant on Jermain Defoe up-front, their new manager could do a lot worse than signing Anichebe – who was released by West Brom earlier this summer.

Joleon Lescott

Although Rangers had been heavily linked with the Aston Villa defender over the last few days, it’s now the Black Cats who lead the race for the former Premier League winner’s signature.

And perhaps Moyes may have been a key reason for Lescott’s sudden change of heart.

The 34-year-old enjoyed arguably his best form at Goodison Park, barely missing a minute under the Scottish boss. And with Lamine Kone’s departure looking all the more likely, an experienced defender such as Lescott would be welcomed with open arms at the Stadium of Lights.

Marouane Fellaini

This one’s a long shot, but the hot-headed Belgian followed Moyes to Old Trafford in the summer of 2013 and has since failed to hold down a regular place in the Man United squad.

The arrival of Paul Pogba has done nothing to strengthen Fellaini’s argument for a starting place, and a move from the Mackems for the 28-year-old would be a real statement of intent.

With less than two weeks to go in this summer’s transfer window, we’re sure Sunderland’s new boss has a few more surprise buys up his sleeve. The question is, who might they be?
