3 quarterback storylines from the NFL’s pre-season so far

Published:

In just over two weeks our Sunday evenings will once again be filled by American Football.

The NFL is gearing up for another pigskin campaign with their pre-season schedule and already there have been some interesting quarterback developments.

Here’s a closer look at three of the more high-profile storylines to emerge:

Denver still hasn’t found a Manning replacement

Moving on from a superstar like Peyton Manning was always going to be tough for the Denver Broncos and after two outings in pre-season, they are no closer to finding his successor.

Veteran passer Mark Sanchez spurned the chance to make the starting spot his own with a careless display against the San Francisco 49ers, having come in for Trevor Siemian in the second quarter.

Siemian himself was something of a loose rudder in the game, leaving the Broncos no closer to knowing their week one starter.

The year of Andrew Luck

While the Broncos look for their next Manning, the last person to replace the hall-of-famer has enjoyed his warm ups.

The Indianapolis Colts’ Andrew Luck endured an injury-ravaged season last year, but looked fit and healthy in his one-quarter outing against the Baltimore Ravens.

In that time he completed all eight of his attempted passes and threw for 71 yards. With his propensity to throw touchdowns – he averages over one and a half a game in his career – staying healthy may be all he needs to have a real eye-catching season.

RGIII’s return

The rise and fall of Robert Griffin III from Washington Redskins saviour to his eventual release last season has been a storied one.

However, that fable could have a new chapter now that the 26-year-old has moved to the Cleveland Browns.

In his two outings with his new club Griffin has looked like returning to the player that earned so much hype early on in his career.

His development this season is definitely one to keep an eye on.
