Who is the Mexican wing wizard set to join Man United?

An exciting young Mexican rocking up at Old Trafford to revitalise a wobbling Man United side? It all sounds rather familiar – though in this case, it isn’t a striker in the Javier Hernandez mould, but a talented winger with fantastic footwork. His name? Hirving Lozano.

The 20-year-old is a product of the CF Pachuca youth system, and he’s been a near-constant presence in the side since breaking into the team in 2014 – with his goals leading Los Tuzos to the 2016 Clausura championship.

But it’s on the international stage where the man from Mexico City has really announced himself, having been one of the few bright sparks during the national side’s patchy Copa America campaign this summer.

For United, the move makes sense. Current left-wing pair Ashley Young and Memphis Depay both struggled to make a meaningful impact last season, while Jose Mourinho will be desperate not to repeat Louis van Gaal’s mistake of splashing huge money on a household name like Angel di Maria – who sunk without a trace.

With Transfermarkt.co.uk estimating his market value at £2.72m, Lozano comes without the weight of a big price-tag, and with plenty of talent. He boasts superb close control, relentless energy and a powerful strike, netting 12 times in Liga MX last season.

Reports suggest the new Red Devils boss could tie the deal up following the Olympics in Rio, but if Lozano impresses in a second major tournament of the summer, the number of interested clubs and the player’s price tag could both increase hugely.

Man United are 4/1 second-favourites to win next season’s Premier League title. And if Mourinho can solve their problems on the wing, those odds could well tumble once the season gets going.
