In today’s Scottish Football Gold, we’re taking a trip back to East End Park, when Dunfermline Athletic’s ground played host to a contender for goal of the season.

Following the resignation of Walter Smith back in May 1998, it was Dick Advocaat who was appointed by Rangers to take the title back from the green side of Glasgow.

And when Andrei Kanchelskis produced this memorable strike in a 3-0 win against the Fife outfit, the Dutchman was well on the way to achieving his goal.

Heading into the Sunday evening fixture, Advocaat’s men had already established a ten point gap over rivals Celtic who were back in third place, while they were also nine points clear of Kilmarnock in second.

A trip to Dunfermline offered the Gers a chance to extend that gap further, and in the 56th minute, ex-Manchester United midfielder Kanchelskis produced this…

Rangers went on to win the Scottish Premiership that season by six points while Dunfermline were relegated after just two years in the top flight.
