This is the greatest transfer news Arsenal will have this summer

Published:

While Arsenal fans continue to wait for their latest marquee signing of the summer, perhaps the best news they could hear in this transfer window is surrounding one of their own players – Alexis Sanchez.

It was reported over the weekend that Juventus had tabled a bid in the region of £30m for the Copa America-winning forward, and while countless fingernails must have been bitten around North London in the last few days, Juve sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed Arsenal will not be selling the Chilean.

The Copa America player of the tournament is a key figure in Arsene Wenger’s side, and this move would have certainly been considered as two steps back for the Gunners.

Though an offer for the former Barcelona star seems to have come as a shock to everyone in the world of football, Juventus are actively on the hunt for a new striker, following the departure of long-time Wenger target Alvaro Morata.

Real Madrid activated a buy-back clause in Morata’s contract with Juve, allowing the Spanish striker to return to his hometown after two years in Italy in which Morata won two Serie A titles, two Coppa Italias, an Italian Super Cup and a Champions League runner-up medal.

However, it does seem unlikely Morata will be in Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane’s plans for the upcoming season, with several top clubs vying for his signature.

If Wenger and Arsenal are to push on next season and end their 12-year wait for a Premier League title, keeping hold of Sanchez – who has netted 34 goals in 74 appearances for the Gunners – has to be a priority.

While Juventus’ search for a new striker continues, Gunners’ fans can rest safe in the knowledge that their new number seven will be going nowhere soon.
