SPFL Fans’ Preview: Are Aberdeen set for a third-place finish?

Published:

Welcome back to our series of Ladbrokes SPFL Fans’ Previews. In the build-up to the new campaign we’re asking a cross-section of passionate supporters how they think their side will get on and who’ll shine this season.

Andy Kenny is next in the hot-seat as he previews the season ahead for his beloved AberdeenHe is a Pittodrie regular, as well as being one of the main men at the The Famous Aberdeen site.

Here’s how he’s calling it…

The Club:

If you could sign one star from the past…

Very tough question. We have had some great players over the years. I think at the moment our biggest weakness is at the back so I would have to go for Willie Miller.

I’m most excited about this season because…

A lot of Aberdeen fans probably won’t like me saying this but it’s great for Scottish football to have Rangers back in the top flight. Some high calibre players are being attracted to the league again. It has the makings of a great season, with ourselves, Rangers, Celtic and even Hearts making some decent signings.

I’m least excited about this season because…

I don’t think we will ever get as good a chance to win the league as we did last season. Don’t get me wrong, there is no way Aberdeen should have been expected to win the title but with Celtic performing the way they did it was slightly frustrating to see us fall short.

Now they have a stronger squad and a better manager as well as Rangers looking good under Mark Warburton I just don’t think we will get that sort of chance this season.

Two songs that define your side?

Wow, got me thinking here! One of the obvious ones is The Sheep are on Fire. And I’ll also go for Take That  – Never Forget (Gothenburg ’83).

Actor that would play your gaffer in a film and why?

Bryan Cranston. He’s had a similar career to Derek McInnes. A good start to his career, went missing for a while then came back in style (and the beard of course).

The Players:

Key Player?

Tough one, Shinnie, McGinn and Rooney all very important but I will go with Jonny Hayes

Weak links?

Definitely at the back. I just can’t understand why we haven’t signed at least one solid out and out central defender. Reynolds was superb in season 2013-14 but has slowly deteriorated since then. Taylor can be brilliant at times but has too many mistakes in him.
