Sheffield Wednesday secure Championship Signing of the Week

Published:

There’s been little in the way of transfers in the Championship of late, so when Sheffield Wednesday announced yesterday that they’d signed Swiss midfielder Almen Abdi from Watford, there was no question as to who would be our Signing of the Week.

Abdi was one of two new players the Owls unveiled yesterday, alongside former teammate Daniel Pudil, and the former Hornets men’s experience at this level will be vital in Wednesday’s push for promotion.

Abdi played in the Championship as recent as two seasons ago, bagging nine goals and assisting two as Watford secured a second placed finish, and last season Abdi represented Watford 32 times in the Premier League, providing the Owls with a wealth of experience for the upcoming campaign.

Elsewhere this week, Burton Albion have added some much needed experience to their squad in midfielder Lee Williamson and former Leicester City man Lloyd Dyer, while Bristol City have secured the services of ex-Bayern Munich goalkeeper Ivan Lucic and Welsh international Adam Matthews.

Abdi joins up with Pudil, Scotland international Steven Fletcher and ex-Norwich City goalkeeper Jake Kean as Wednesday continue to build a squad capable of challenging for a top spot.

Carlos Carvalhal’s men fell at the final hurdle last campaign, losing in the play-off final to Hull City, and are now just 4/1 to go one step further this time out.
