Man City approach Arsenal over services of fan favourite

Having already tempted Gael Clichy, Bacary Sagna and Samir Nasri from the Emirates to the blue side of Manchester in recent years, Manchester City have made a shock enquiry about the availability of current Arsenal full-back, Hector Bellerin.

Reports from the Daily Mail are today suggesting that new City manager Pep Guardiola is looking to bring the 21-year old to the Etihad this summer as he looks to add a combination of pace, youth and Premier League experience to his back four.

And the Spaniard is no stranger to Guardiola, who was in charge of the Barcelona first team while Bellerin was working his way through the youth ranks.

But the Gunners have quickly slammed the door shut on any approach, having already dismissed a similar enquiry from Barca earlier this summer.

Bellerin was the only Arsenal player to make last season’s PFA Team of the Year as his first full season saw him involved in 37 games, 17 of which the Gunners kept a clean sheet in.

He also grabbed a goal himself in a 4-0 win at home to Watford while making five assists during the campaign.

It’s no surprise that Guardiola is looking to add some younger players to a defence which last season had an average age of 30, but the new boss will have to look elsewhere – much to the relief of every Gunners fan.

While Arsenal continue to look to add depth to their own squad, this is the latest big name to be linked with a move away from the Emirates as Laurent Koscielny and Alexis Sanchez have already attracted unwanted interest.

If Arsene Wenger can keep hold of his current crop and add one or two more marquee signings, the 6/1 for Arsenal to win the league could disappear.

Elsewhere, two or three more big money buys for City will surely see their 12/5 to win the league drastically fall.
