Juventus vs Tottenham: New faces have the chance to impress
As is the modern way, Tottenham are on the other side of the world preparing for the start of the new Premier League season.
Their first friendly comes against stiff opposition in the form of Juventus and it’s a task made tougher by the absence of a number of their Euro 2016 stars.
England squad members Harry Kane, Eric Dier, Kyle Walker, Danny Rose and Dele Alli have all not travelled to Australia in favour of extra recuperation after their summer excursions. The same goes for Hugo Lloris, Ben Davies, Toby Alderweireld and Mousa Dembele.
That means Spurs fans will have an early glimpse of new signings Vincent Janssen and Victor Wanyama in the white shirt, while squad players like Kevin Wimmer and Tom Carroll will have an early opportunity to impress Mauricio Pochettino.
Unlike the Argentine, Juventus boss Massimo Allegri has already given a hint as to his starting line-up.
Summer signings Mehdi Benatia and Miralem Pjanic, who joined from Bayern Munich and Roma respectively, will both start the game, while the Italian said he is likely to send his side out with a back four in defence.
Lilywhites new boy Janssen, who arrived in an £18m deal from AZ Alkmaar earlier in the window, is our 5/1 second favourite to open the scoring, behind Juventus livewire Paulo Dybala.
The game will be played at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, which will then host Spurs’ clash with Atletico Madrid three days later.
Spurs will conclude their pre-season warm-up fixtures against Inter Milan, before taking on Everton in their Premier League opener at Goodison Park.
