Guy Martin and Steve Coogan both vying for Top Gear pole position
Published:Daredevil Guy Martin and comedian Steve Coogan are leading the way in the race to become the next permanent presenter on Top Gear.
As Chris Evans steps down from the helm after just one series speculation is already mounting as to who his replacement will be.
Martin is the current 5/1 market leader with Coogan falling away slightly to 7/1 with odds of 10/1 offered for former front runner Dermot O’Leary to juggle both Top Gear and X Factor.
Actor and car enthusiast Philip Glenister is rated at 16/1 and the same price is on offer for Vicky Butler-Henderson.
Meanwhile, it’s 25/1 that Jeremy Clarkson makes a sensational return to the hit Sunday night show.
And finally, with Nigel Farage out of a job at the moment it’s an outside chance at 100/1 he’s given the nod by Beeb bosses.
Jessica Bridge of Ladbrokes said: “Evans had a rough ride as Top Gear host and the early betting points towards Martin or Coogan filling the void, with the latter a near certainty to help ratings rocket. It’s safe to say Dermot O’Leary would be the housewives’ favourite but his time may have been and gone already.”
