Goodwood-Galway Lucky 15: Sir Michael-trained charge holds the key

Sir Michael Stoute Chester odds

It’s been a tough couple of days but we’re looking to get back in the groove with a Sir Michael Stoute mount key to our hopes of returning to winning ways at Glorious Goodwood.

An action-packed Friday brings us no fewer than four intriguing Group races with the Golden Mile handicap a fascinating centrepiece of another great day’s racing.

Meanwhile, fingers crossed for the luck of the Irish over in Galway where there a few tricky handicaps to try and unpick.

Here’s what we’ve come up with…

Thikriyaat, 14:35 Glorious Goodwood

Short-priced horses have had the better of this in the last decade so it’s probably best to focus on the top few in the market.

With that in mind we’ve plumped for Sir Michael Stoute’s charge. This selection finished a close second behind Sussex Stakes third Ribchester last time out, a result that ended an unbeaten record from three starts.

If reproducing the same kind of form then it’ll be tough for the others to live with him.

Muthmir, 15:45 Glorious Goodwood

This unpredictable 5f dash may seem like a tough one to include for the purposes of a Lucky 15 but in Muthmir we think we’ve got a very reliable pick.

Last year’s winner has two smart three-year-olds to contend with in the shape of Marsha and Easton Angel but we think that extra course and distance experience will reap rewards and see him over the line in front of his re-opposing rivals.

Heartbreak City, 17:10 Galway

Tony Martin won this last year with Vive La France and the trainer can follow-up with Heartbreak City.

The six-year-old duly obliged when sent off as a short-priced favourite at Tipperary in May and this contest looks well within his means based on that performance.

Automated and recent hurdles winner Baby Jake are threats but we’re sticking to our guns.

Queen Alphabet, 18:50 Galway

Peter Fahey’s mare has won her last three on the level with a 6L romp at Gowran Park coming less than a week ago.

Granted, this represents a far sterner test but we think she’s up to it and the bookies will too come the off.
