Glorious Goodwood Exchange Stakes: King of Stats’ big-price find
Published:The King of Stats has been handed a worthy task in whittling away the field ahead of Glorious Goodwood’s Exchange Stakes handicap, the first race up on Channel 4’s third-day coverage.
Much of the betting goes against the tried and tested trends, suggesting there’s plenty of value to be had.
Read on for the regal reveal:
12 of the past 13 winners had raced within the four weeks prior
This stat pushes out a surprising number of runners, with Sir Michael Stoute’s Stargazer, the 9/2 favourite, falling at the first due to a three-month absence.
Outsider Red Rannagh hasn’t been seen since January, meaning he joins the jolly on the scrap heap alongside Zhui Feng, Speed Company, Goodwood Zodiac, Top Beak and Sabre Squadron.
10 of the last 13 winners carried 9-0 or less in weight
Just seven left from the remaining 10 after this, as fancied heavy-weights Ode To Evening and Banksea bow out.
With less to lug around the West Sussex track, Champagne City, Carrington, High Shields, Scarlet Dragon, Dwight D, You’re Hired and Abareeq soldier on.
Eight of the last 13 winners finished in the top three last time out
At least some form going into Glorious Goodwood bodes well, with Carrington and High Shields’ fourth-place finishes over the past month tending not to be enough, however…
Only two of the last 13 winners won their previous race
Last-time out victories are not a particularly good look in the Exchange Stakes, so Scarlet Dragon and You’re Hired exit stage left at this point.
Four of the last 13 winners were trained by Mark Johnston
Including two of the past three, and the Yorkshire-based handler has four in this, including Champagne City and Abareeq.
Of that pair, the former gets the nod due to an official rating of 91, putting him within the 91-99 range of 11 of the past 13 winners, while the latter’s 77 is somewhat lacking.
