German winger looks set to join Man City revolution

Leroy Sane is the latest young German star being linked with a move to the Premier League following an impressive season with boyhood club Schalke 04, which led to a call-up to the Germany senior team at this summer’s Euros, with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reportedly keen to snap up his signature.

Having bagged eight goals and contributed six assists in 33 Bundesliga outings last season, the 20-year old looks to have caught the eye of new Man City manager Pep Guardiola, who will almost certainly have been keeping tabs on the young midfielder while he was in charge of Bayern Munich.

With many expecting an overhaul of personnel at the Etihad this summer, City’s new boss looks set to add Sane to his team having already captured Sane’s compatriot Ilkay Gundogan, Spain international Nolito and Ukrainian midfielder Alexander Zinchenko.

Sane made his international debut last November in a 2-0 defeat to France and has since represented Die Mannschaft on another three occasions – most recently at this summer’s Euros in another 2-0 defeat to Les Bleus – while scoring five goals in five appearances for the under-21 side in their Euro 2017 qualifying campaign.

Competition for places looks tough at City right now, with Raheem Sterling, David Silva, Kevin De Bruyne, Jesus Navas, Gundogan, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri all currently battling it out for starting places in an attacking midfield role.

And while Manchester City have topped the Premier League goals scored charts in four of the last five seasons, that hasn’t stopped Guardiola adding depth to that department.

While £42m seems a lot for a 20-year old with little international experience, that price could end up being a bargain for a young player who has the potential to bring so much to the Premier League.

The Citizens are currently 12/5 favourites to win the league in 2016-17, and more signings of Sane’s quality could see those odds tumble.
