Frankie: Passing Doug Smith’s total is my next career goal

Published:

There’s been a bit of talk recently about me approaching 3,000 UK winners and what that will entail and mean in the grand scheme of things.

Sure, it’s my next target but I’ve got others in sight too.

I’m currently sixth on the all-time winning jockey list and after the 3,000 I want to surpass Doug Smith’s 3,112 winners and get to number five!

That’s another goal to aim for.

I’m not going to set a number on what age I’ll retire. I’m still pretty fit and I’ll get to 50-years-old and still be riding, no problem.

After that, we’ll take it one year at a time.

I still really enjoy what I’m doing. I’m picking and choosing my rides to give me more longevity and I’m not busting my neck to chase the Jockey’s Championship.

Ultimately, if you want it then the targets are still there. I’ve still got the hunger to push myself and achieve new goals.

When reflecting on my own career and my life I’d say I’ve changed a lot. It’s natural to do so, you change as a person.

As a jockey you improve and learn with experience but as a person your motivations and targets change as you evolve through different stages.

Even in my 40s I’ve changed. There’s no book that tells you what to do but I feel that I’ve changed with everything I’ve been through.

It’s been fun and I think I’ve changed in a good way.
