Frankie: Not even I thought I’d come close to reaching 3,000 winners!

Glorious Goodwood is on the horizon, and as well as more top-quality racing to look forward to, I have another target in sight.

I’m approaching an incredible 3,000 UK winners and am currently on 2,993 at the time of writing on Friday 22 July.

Of course, you never forget your first win. I’ve likened it to the same feeling you have when you first have sex, it never leaves you!

It’s the start of your life and I remember riding Lizzy Hare to victory at Goodwood like it was yesterday.

I talked about it for a week afterwards and I was very excited. It was a special day and 29 years later I’m still reflecting on it.

However, if I’m being honest, not even I thought I would reach this many winners and be approaching 3000.

I’ve got a few rides this week but most trainers are saving their major players for Glorious Goodwood.

Obviously, it would be amazing to do it there but I’m not going to add any extra pressure. The winners will come when it’s the right time.

I’ve struggled at times at Goodwood but if I don’t reach the 3,000 in Sussex then there’s no need for me to panic. It’s going to happen one day, that’s for sure!

Last year I had six winners at Goodwood so I’ve got every reason to feel confident and let’s see how it all pans out.

Right now my thoughts are on the King George on Saturday and then it’s the Sussex Stakes the following Wednesday.

My fella Wings of Desire is well and we’re going to roll our dice once again.
