Dimitri Payet is your Euro 2016 Player of the Tournament so far

Published:

We’re well and truly at the business end of Euro 2016 and while the main focus still surrounds which team will lift the trophy there’s also the Player of the Tournament accolade to consider too.

In that vein we asked our Twitter followers to let us know who they think is worthy of the award and it’s fair to say we received some pretty interesting responses!

As it turned out, France midfielder Dimitri Payet was your winner with 44 per cent of the vote although that only begins to tell the story.

Wales star Gareth Bale, scorer of three goals before tonight’s quarter-final against Belgium, came in second with 33 per cent with Belgian playmaker Eden Hazard coming in last of our named trio on 13 per cent.

But it was in the comments section where this particular poll came alive. England’s Harry Kane and Joe Hart received tongue-in-cheek nominations (we think) while German midfielder Toni Kroos and Dragons hero Joe Allen received more honourable mentions.

Don’t speak to @Rickster0177 about Euro 2016 though…

Of course, a lot can change between now and the culmination of the Euros on Sunday July 10. So, don’t be too surprised to see a few more players emerge on the Player of the Tournament shortlist.

Wales take on Belgium in Lille this evening with Bale 10/1 to score from a direct free-kick and 8/1 to net from outside the box.

And if you’re thinking of having a POTT bet, Payet is currently your 4/1 favourite…
