Celtic v Lincoln Red Imps: Hoops to banish first-leg woes in style

Published:

Last week’s defeat to Gibraltarian outfit Lincoln Red Imps was hardly the start that new Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers was hoping for. However, the former Liverpool boss looks set to lead his new side into the next round with a comprehensive second-leg win at Celtic Park tonight.

The Hoops haven’t lost a single home game in 2016, with nine wins and two draws at Parkhead since the turn of the year. And having put seven goals past Motherwell in their last outing here, the plucky visitors are unlikely to hold on for 20 minutes – let alone 90.

For the Imps’ part, while they dominate the Gibraltarian football scene (just the 14 league titles in a row!), their away form is far from perfect. They’ve suffered defeat twice in their last six games – losing to Flora Tallinn and domestic rivals Europa.

The Hoops are red-hot favourites to win at 1/20, with 16/1 for the draw and 50/1 for Lincoln to win again tonight.

However, with the home side so likely to prevail, the best value could well be on a scoreline bet, and a repeat of the 7-0 margin against Motherwell tonight could be an inspired selection at 22/1.

As could the 4/1 for a 4-0 win, with Celtic having managed that scoreline on five occasions during the previous two years.

There could also be plenty of value in backing Manchester City loanee Patrick Roberts to score two or more goals at 4/1, having netted four times in his last five outings for the Bhoys.
