Celtic can build on European progress by beating English champions

Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side are already beginning to click, having breezed past Lincoln Red Imps by a 3-0 margin in Tuesday’s crucial Champions League clash. And the champions of Scotland are well capable of beating English title-winners Leicester City in this afternoon’s International Champions Cup meeting.

The Hoops have home advantage, and with the passionate Parkhead crowd behind them, it certainly is an advantage. Rodgers’ men have won 11 and drawn two of their last 13 home games and won their last friendly outing 2-1 against German heavyweights Wolfsburg.

Meanwhile, despite the Foxes’ fantastic feats last season, they only squeezed past Oxford United by a 2-1 margin in their most recent outing, while they’ve been hugely weakened this summer by the loss of N’Golo Kante, who was voted the club’s Players’ Player of the Year last season.

But while the east Midlands outfit have lost arguably their best player, two of Celtic’s top talents appear to be back to their best following the 3-0 victory over Lincoln.

Patrick Roberts produced a superb goal as part of an excellent overall display, while Leigh Griffiths has now netted an impressive six times in his last seven games.

That means the Hoops look well worth backing in the match betting, with 9/4 for a Celtic win, while it’s 23/20 that Leicester take the points and 12/5 for honours even.

However, there could be even better value in backing Roberts to score anytime at 5/2, having found the net in four of his last six games.

Meanwhile, the Hoops have won two of their last three friendly matches by a 2-1 margin, so backing them at 10/1 to do so again could be a stellar selection.
