Catalans v Wigan: Broughton the man to inspire dangerous Dragons

As the Super 8s fast approach, top-four contenders Catalans Dragons and Wigan Warriors meet hoping to close the gap on table-topping Hull FC.

After differing fortunes in the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup last weekend, with Wigan progressing to the quarter-finals and Catalans’ run ending at the hands of Hull, it is back to league action.

And with that comes the chance to not only keep the pressure on the leaders but also get one over another likely top-four finisher.

Over recent weeks, Wigan have overcome adversity in the form of injuries and suspensions to grind out five important wins in the league, and an equally important Challenge Cup quarter-final win over Castleford.

They’ve still not hit their straps in attack by any means. But their ability to win games despite not being at their best will become an increasingly welcome trait as the season goes on.

Meanwhile, with their array of former NRL stars – as well as a number of sound recruits with Super League experience – many predicted 2016 could well be the year for Catalans.

They’ve lived up to the hype and with just four games left before the split they sit only four points behind a Hull FC outfit rocked by their recent defeat to struggling Huddersfield.

And if Wigan are to get something from the south of France, they will need to be at their meanest best in defence, especially with some of the names sitting on the sidelines; namely Liam Farrell, Joel Tomkins and John Bateman among others. A close Wigan win between 1-5 points is 7/1.

This Saturday night’s game pits the second-best defence – Wigan – and against the second-best attack – Catalans, and in Jodie Broughton, the Dragons have one of the most potent try-scorers in the division.

He has got 18 tries in 17 appearances this season and is 9/1 to open the scoring at the Stade Gilbert Brutus.
