Burnley star Gray will get goals, but don’t expect double figures

Andre Gray proved pivotal last season as Burnley made an immediate return to the Premier League, but both player and club are in for a much tougher time of it this term.

That’s the view according to today’s Twitter poll, which asked how many goals you thought Gray would score in the top-tier.

The former Shrewsbury man fired in a whopping 23 strikes last season, and the likes of Jamie Vardy and Troy Deeney both showed last term that a lower-league beginning is no obstacle to success at the top.

But today’s poll results suggest Gray could find goals hard to come by, with 47 per cent of you saying the 25-year-old will score between five and nine times.

Second place in our poll hinted at a more successful year for the Turf Moor outfit and their front man, with 37 per cent backing Gray to find the net between 10 and 14 times.

Some quick maths shows that a huge 84 per cent reckon the Englishman will score something in the region of 5 to 14 goals, leaving few expecting a goal-laden campaign or equally a dismal one.

Third place in today’s vote was 0-4 goals with 10 per cent, and 15 or more came last with six per cent.

Burnley have never survived a season in the Premier League, but they’ve rarely had a talented striker such as Gray to call upon.

Gray is 80/1 to be the league’s top scorer this term, but before you dismiss his chances, remember Jamie Vardy was the same price 12 months ago and he came pretty close to grabbing the award.

Sean Dyche’s side are 5/6 to stay up, and if they are to do so, they’ll be hoping Gray defies today’s poll and continues his stunning form into the Premier League.
