Arsenal clear favourites to snap up Romelu Lukaku this summer

Arsenal are heavy favourites to sign Everton’s want-away striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, with the Belgian one of the most sought-after players of the transfer window.

The Gunners are 7/4 to snap up the forward, following reports of a meeting between Arsene Wenger and Lukaku’s agent this week.

Lukaku fired 18 goals in 37 games for the Toffees last term, but Everton’s lacklustre run to a bottom-half finish has left the forward seeking alternative employment.

Having netted 60 Premier League goals in the last four seasons, there’s no doubting Lukaku’s quality,  and at 23 his best days are yet to come.

Olivier Giroud helped himself to 16 league strikes last term, but a dire goal-drought in the middle of the campaign hampered Arsenal’s title hopes, and left the Gunners in sore need of a proven goalscorer.

Having already seen a move for Jamie Vardy rejected by the Leicester forward, Wenger is now homing his sights on Everton’s prize asset.

It’s believed the Goodison club wish to hold out for a bid of £65m, but reports suggest Everton would sell at £40m.

A switch to Chelsea is deemed next likely for Lukaku at 6/1, with a short hop to Manchester United rated 8/1.

French champions PSG are 10/1 to make Lukaku the man to fill Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s boots, with Real Madrid a seemingly unlikely destination at 20/1.

Moves to any of Man City, Barcelona, Liverpool and Tottenham are given little chance by the bookies, with each at 25/1.

A Ladbrokes spokesperson said: “It’s becoming a question of when Lukaku will quit Goodison rather than if, and a move to Arsenal makes plenty of sense for player and club.

Arsenal are fourth favourites at 6/1 for next season’s Premier League title, but should they land Lukaku, you can expect those odds to tumble very quickly indeed.
