Wimbledon: Bad boy Kyrgios meets trick-shot king Brown in Round 2

Published:

Despite rain producing its annual trick of appearing exactly when Wimbledon is on, we have some second round draws ready and raring to go, although few will be as hotly anticipated as Nick Kyrgios versus Dustin Brown.

It’s a case of the bad boy of tennis meeting the laid-back, trick-shot king. To steal a Game of Thrones reference, it’s very much a song of Ice and Fire.

A quick traipse across the World Wide Web and you’ll find numerous clips of Aussie Krygios exploding at an Umpire, or indeed losing it at himself.

Just as frequent online are showreels of Brown’s wonderfully unique take on the game, producing bamboozling shot after bamboozling shot, while Kyrgios is no stranger to a showpiece move either.

The pair get along well away from the court, but on it, we can expect one of the most entertaining clashes SW19 will offer this year.

Kyrgios – tipped to be a world number one in the future – is 1/9 favourite, with half-German half-Jamaican Brown 11/2 to cause another Wimbledon upset via his own blend of surprising tennis.

The 31-year-old is no stranger to a shock in west London, famously defeating Rafael Nadal in four sets 12 months ago.

Brown will be fully aware of Krygios’ tempter – the Aussie imploded versus Richard Gasquet last year and you can watch the press conference below – and given his own cool mentality on court, the man who travels across the tour in a camper van has one very useful asset in his armoury.

Indeed it’s the pair’s differing attributes that sets this clash up so well, and when Wimbledon and the BBC come to producing their end of tournament montage you can expect quite a few shots from this cracking contest to be prevalent.
