The love affair may have ended in slightly bitter fashion, but a pair of Premier League medals bares testament to Javier Hernandez’s impact at Manchester United, who arrived as a complete unknown quantity to most Red Devils fans back in 2010.
Having blazed a trail direct from Mexican football to the English top flight, the boy known as Chicarito didn’t take long to endear himself to the Old Trafford faithful with his goals.
A big reason the latest rumours surrounding the “Little Pea’s” compatriot, Hirving Lozano, are bound to generate excitement.
Mexican football publication Record MX suggests United scouts have been busy on the other side of the Atlantic once more, leading to an approach for the Pachuca winger.
Pachuca recently scooped Mexico’s Liga MX title and left winger Lozano was a very influential member of the championship-winning side.
The subject of Man United’s advances netted six times in 17 regular season appearances, before adding crucial goals in either leg of his club’s play-off semi-finals.
Such exploits weren’t only noticed by the Red Devils’ Central American scouting network, but the national team as well.
Lozano scored on his full Mexico debut in a World Cup qualifier against Canada in March and in light of his impact for El Tri’s youth teams, great things will be expected of the 20-year-old now he has stepped up.
The Mexico City native has already collected some impressive individual honours at U20 and U23 level.
He has a Golden Ball award from Mexico’s Olympic qualifying campaign and a Golden Boot on the mantelpiece from last year’s CONCACAF U20 Championship, where he bagged five goals en route to the title.
Lozano can currently be seen in action for El Tri at the Copa America, where his second cap came courtesy of a 35-minute cameo during a 3-1 opening win over Uruguay.
Although he plays off the left flank, the possibly Premier League-bound star is predominantly right footed and can often be seen cutting in from his outpost, bamboozling a few defenders along the way to grab his goals.
If he ends up signing, United can expect to see plenty of trickery and deft touches from a player making waves in his native country.
