Which areas will have the highest Remain vote percentage?

Published:

Edinburgh is the hot favourite to top a list of pro-Remain counting areas, according to the latest odds from our political traders.

We’re taking bets on which of a series of counting areas will return the highest score in favour of Remain and it’s the Scottish capital leading the way at 2/1.

Cambridge and Oxford are tied on 4/1 each next, with Islington and Hackney (both 6/1) seen as London’s biggest Europhile districts, over Southwark at 7/1.

Looking at the overall Referendum result, Leave is continuing to make gains on our Brexit barometer with that outcome now rated a 7/4 chance, clipped in from 2/1.

Leave was as big as 11/4 last Friday afternoon but despite the momentum for Brexit, Remain still commands a likelihood of 66 per cent, or 4/9 in betting terms.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We expect Edinburgh to emerge as one of the most pro-EU areas of the country when the count is in. If that title heads to London, the betting suggests voters in Islington and Hackney are slightly more passionate about Brussels than those south of the river.”

He added: “Leave is the market mover but the odds still indicate Remain has the clear advantage. If the Brexit camp can build on gains made this weekend, they look sure to head to polling day in an even closer position on the barometer dial.”

Ladbrokes latest betting:

Leave 7/4 (34%)

Remain 4/9 (66%)
