SPFL new boys face Forfar on opening day of Ladbrokes League 2 season
Published:The fixtures for the 2016-17 Ladbrokes League 2 season have just been released, with Edinburgh City’s first ever foray into the Scottish Professional Football League seeing them open against another team who were not competing at this level last term.
The Citizens will kick off the campaign on home soil against Forfar Athletic, who were relegated from Ladbrokes League 1 last season.
Cowdenbeath were the other team to drop out of the third tier and they have a tricky opener against an Elgin side who finished just three points off the top of Ladbrokes League 2 last April.
Yet it was Clyde who came the closest to achieving promotion when beaten 3-2 on aggregate by Queen’s Park in the Ladbrokes League 1 play-off final. The fixture compilers have given them a home match to start the season too, against Montrose.
