Rangers fan makes bold #WhatAreTheOdds bet on European glory

Published:

Last season saw Rangers in scintillating form, as Mark Warburton’s men lifted the Ladbrokes Championship title, won the Challenge Cup and reached the final of the Scottish Cup after victory over Celtic. And now one optimistic Gers supporter is tipping the Ibrox club to be Kings of Europe within the next two seasons.

Rangers have previously tasted European glory in the now-defunct European Cup Winners’ Cup and reached the UEFA Cup final back in 2008, but this supporter is tipping the Light Blues to win the Champions League in 2017-18 at a mammoth 750/1.

So, could it happen? Their European pedigree certainly suggests that Rangers can be a success on the continent. As recently as 2010, they managed a draw at Old Trafford against a side who had won the tournament less than 18 months previously.

Meanwhile, they’ve held the likes of Barcelona and Valencia in Europe during their last handful of appearances on the continent. But if they’re really to do anything special in Europe in the coming years, those draws need to be turned into wins.

Domestic form certainly suggests they could reach the tournament – which is the first part of the battle.

The Gers would need to win next season’s Ladbrokes Premiership title, but having run away with the Championship last season and defeated Celtic in the cup, they’re also set to strengthen this summer, and could be too hot to handle domestically.

Admittedly, it would be quite the shock to see Kenny Miller and co. hammering the likes of Bayern Munich and Real Madrid in Europe’s biggest club competition, but if Rangers can secure a first top-flight title in six seasons – at 3/1 – then who knows what will follow?
