Poll Reaction: England Hot-shot Kane to outscore neighbourly rivals

England striker Harry Kane will leave Gareth Bale, Kyle Lafferty, and Shane Long in his wake, to become the top scorer among the Home Nations and Republic of Ireland at Euro 2016.

That’s according to today’s poll, where Twitter users overwhelmingly backed Kane to be the striking sensation to light up the sporting showpiece in France.

The 23-year-old was awarded the Premier League Golden Boot for 2015-16, having netted an impressive 25 times for Tottenham, and his Prem pedigree has seen 56 per cent of voters back him to be the top scorer of the four.

Bale was second-favourite with 24 per cent, with the world’s most expensive footballer having impressed during qualifying, scoring seven of Wales’ 11 goals en route to the tournament.

Meanwhile, 11 per cent of you backed Southampton star Long to outscore the Home Nations’ hitmen this summer, and it’s a sight which would certainly leave Irish eyes smiling.

Kyle Lafferty found himself in last place here, though nine per cent of those who responded tipped the Norwich City man to build on his seven strikes in qualifying by hitting the net more often than the illustrious figures of Kane and Bale.

The Spurs star is set to show his worth on the big stage as England face Russia in Saturday night’s Group B clash.

The Three Lions are 10/11 to win, with Russia 15/4 to cause an upset.

Meanwhile, those who tipped Kane to win this four-way duel can also back him to score first against Sbornaya in Marseille at 4/1, while it’s 15/2 he nets twice or more.
