Meet the Leeds United star Stoke and Liverpool are battling for

Published:

With both sides having shipped at least 50 goals in last season’s Premier League, Stoke City and Liverpool are both targeting new recruits at the back, and the two clubs are set for a battle to secure the signature of Leeds United defender Charlie Taylor.

The 22-year-old was voted Leeds United’s Player of the Year for 2015-16, having established himself as a consistently excellent performer in an inconsistent Whites side.

And with the Yorkshire outfit unlikely to challenge for promotion this season, the lure of an established Premier League club could prove hard to resist.

Of the two potential suitors, Liverpool represents the more glamorous move, and Reds fans have consistently bemoaned their lack of a top-rate left-back, especially in the wake of Alberto Moreno’s error-strewn display in the Europa League final.

However, a move to the Potteries would surely guarantee first-team football for a player who made 43 appearances for Leeds last season, and whose hard-working nature makes him unlikely to be satisfied with a spot on the bench – at Anfield or anywhere else.

While Euro 2016 means many potential transfer deals could be scuppered by players’ stint in France, both the Potters and Reds have all summer to snap up the Elland Road star. That means we could be in for an intriguing battle with both sides continuing their attempt to prise the Whites youngster from his native Yorkshire.

Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are 8/1 to end their 26-year wait for a top-flight crown next season, while it’s 350/1 that the Potters ‘do a Leicester’ and clinch their first Premier League title.

Which club begins next season with the talented Taylor among their ranks remains to be seen.
