Meet Dundee’s new surprise-package striker for next season
If Yordi Teijsse takes the Ladbrokes Premiership by storm next season, it will catch everyone bar Dundee manager Paul Hartley by surprise.
The Dark Blues unveiled their new striker having signed him from amateur Dutch side Quick Boys on a two-year deal. But Hartley certainly did his homework before concluding the move.
As well as poring over hours of footage of the 23-year-old in action, Hartley also sought out the advice of two former SPFL Dutchmen before making up his mind.
Former Rangers star Arthur Numan, who now works with AZ Alkmaar, and ex-Hearts and Dundee United front man Mark de Vries both gave glowing reports on Teijsse to help convince Hartley to take the plunge.
“I have known Arthur Numan for a while and I always speak to him whenever there is a Dutch player on our radar.
“I was in touch with him all last week about Yordi and I also spoke to Mark de Vries when I was on a course at St Andrews.
“Both had really good things to say about Yordi and we are delighted to have signed him,” Hartley said.
Teijsse will certainly arrive full of confidence, having enjoyed a prolific season with Quick Boys. The striker netted 31 goals for his side during the campaign, helping them secure their league title, and himself a big move in the process.
Should the Dutchman hit the ground running then he could help form one of the most potent strike forces in the division next season.
Kane Hemmings’ 21 league goals were only bettered by Golden Boot winner Leigh Griffiths at Celtic, while Greg Stewart and Rory Loy both bagged nine each in support.
With Teijsse adding an exciting unknown quality to that trio, the Dees certainly have the potential to be a revelation next term.
