Leigh Griffiths named Ladbrokes Premiership Player of the Season

Celtic striker Leigh Griffiths has won the Ladbrokes Premiership Player of the Season award, following his outstanding displays in the Hoops’ title-winning campaign.

The 25-year-old netted an incredible 31 times in 34 league outings, putting the Bhoys on the front foot in one game after another, by netting the opener 16 times en route to his third successive league title with the Parkhead club.

While efforts like Griffiths’ superbly skilful goal in September’s 6-0 defeat of Dundee will live long in the memory of Celtic fans, it is the former Hibernian man’s incredible consistency which has proved his most impressive asset.

The Hoops hitman has also reinforced his reputation as an excellent team player, setting up six goals during the 2015-16 Ladbrokes Premiership campaign, and regularly ending opposition breakaways with his committed tackling.

However, the prolific striker is not one to rest on his laurels, claiming that his main focus is on improving under new Bhoys boss Brendan Rodgers.

“Brendan is has a track record for making great players even better. You only need to look at what he did with the likes of Suarez and Sturridge when he was in charge of Liverpool”, Griffiths remarked.

He added: “There are always things you can improve on. I can improve as a player and the only way to do that is by working hard on the training field.”

Having demolished defences from Dundee to Dingwall, the prospect of an improved Griffiths is one which is sure to give opponents sleepless nights.

And if the livewire forward can top his 31-goal haul in next season’s Ladbrokes Premiership, those backing the Hoops to lift a sixth successive league title at 1/4 are likely to be grinning from ear-to-ear.
