He’s an Everton man now, but Koeman should have stuck with Saints

Everton announced an agreement to appoint Ronald Koeman as their new manager today, but the Dutchman should have stayed with a good thing at Southampton.

That’s according to our Twitter poll today, which simply asked whether Koeman was better off going to Goodison Park, or staying at St Mary’s?

The 53-year-old replaces Roberto Martinez in charge of the blue half of Merseyside, while Southampton must find themselves another gaffer, having lost Koeman and Mauricio Pochettino inside two years.

Having guided the south-coast club to a record points total and an a sixth place finish – just three points away from a Champions League place, some 58 per cent of you reckoned Koeman should have seen it out with the Saints for at least another season.

That left 42 per cent (With a large number of votes from the Merseyside area maybe?) saying the Dutchman is right to seek pastures new.

Having finished 16 points ahead of the Toffees last term, Southampton are 8/1 to build on their impressive campaign and land a top-four finish under a new manager next year.

Everton meanwhile, who ended a disappointing 11th under Martinez in May, are 12/1 to land a second top-four Premier League finish next year, under Koeman’s watch.
