England fans will be Britain’s biggest skivers for Wales clash

England fans will be Britain’s biggest skivers on Thursday according to the results of our latest Twitter poll.

We surveyed thousands of football fans ahead of the Group B clash in Lens kicking off at 14:00 and the majority of the Three Lions supporters (54 per cent) replied suggesting they would bunk off work with a feigned illness in order to catch the game.

However, not all respondents were so keen to take time off for the match with fan Craig Gordon responding: ‘I’m a self employed brickie – no chance I’m losing a day’s money to watch England under perform as per’.

Football fans on the other side of the Severn Bridge appear to be more honest, with 51 per cent of Welsh supporters suggesting they will stay in work.

We anticipate the game will bring about a surge in mobile bets from those stuck in offices and factories, with up to £1000 a second to be bet on smartphones across the industry in the hour leading up to kick-off.

England are 4/7 favourites to get their Euros campaign back on track with a win for Wales priced at 11/2.

The odds also suggest that despite jibes about Roy Hodgson’s men lacking passion, more England players will sing their national anthem at 4/7 compared to their opponents at 5/4.

Alex Donohue of Ladbrokes said: “We’re surprised at how many fans of both teams openly admit to planning to bunk off work for the big match. After Saturday’s results, we thought more Wales fans might have risked the wrath of their boss to watch their side.”

He added: “We’re anticipating surges of traffic to our mobile app just before kick off as those chained to their desk get bets on without their manager noticing.”
