Back England’s teenage sensation to net first against Portugal

Published:

Manchester United’s teenage sensation Marcus Rashford has shown an incredible knack for early goals since he broke onto the scene in February – and there seems plenty of value in backing him to score the opener against Portugal for England.

Despite having played just 19 senior games for club and country, the Red Devils hitman has already struck the opening goal five times, and chances are he’ll start for the Three Lions, having made the starting XI in every one of those 19 appearances.

It’s 9/2 that the United youngster nets first, and while those odds could prove very tempting, there are plenty of other outcomes worth backing for those who aren’t convinced by the 18-year-old’s goalscoring prowess.

England’s last four games have all finished with three or more goals being scored, while Portugal’s most recent outings ended 3-0 and 2-1 respectively. That means over 2.5 goals here could prove a very popular selection at 11/8.

The most interesting stat in the match betting is that the Selecao have lost just one of their last eight away games, while England have been defeated only once on their own patch since November 2013.

That means there’s plenty of reason to expect a share of the spoils tonight, with the draw looking a smart bet at 2/1.

And with both Roy Hodgson and Portugal boss Fernando Santos looking to tweak and fine-tune their squad, it’s unlikely that either will side will dominate proceedings.

However, those who want to back a Three Lions victory can do so at 5/4, while it’s 12/5 for Cristiano Ronaldo and co. to claim a first ever Portuguese win on English soil.

Three Lions fans who fancy Tottenham goal-machine Harry Kane to fire Roy’s boys to victory can enjoy our fantastic price boost – Harry Kane to score and England to win was 2/1 NOW 3/1.
