West Ham aim to make Lyon ace their marquee summer signing

Published:

After a superb campaign under Slaven Bilic, West Ham are preparing to celebrate their move to the Olympic Stadium this summer by landing a star-name in the transfer market.

The Hammers are fifth in the Premier League with three games to go and will be looking to nail down a top-six finish to ensure a return to the Europa League next season.

European football would be the perfect way to start their residency at a new stadium, but the east London club are looking to make a summer signing as equally as grand as the move to the Olympic Stadium will be.

According to the Mail on Sunday, Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette is the man the Irons have picked for that honour.

The paper reports that West Ham will look to break their transfer record to land the French striker, which means they will be paying over the £15m they forked out to land Andy Carroll in 2013.

Any pursuit of Lacazette won’t be without competition though, as the Lyon man has been touted as a potential target of Barcelona’s as well.

Game time at the Nou Camp is obviously likely to be far sparser than the minutes available at West Ham, and the Londoners remain confident that they’ll be able to get any potential deal over the line.

Lacazette has been a proven Ligue 1 goalscorer over the last few seasons, scoring over 15 goals for the third campaign in succession this term.

His 18 league goals this season would comfortably make him West Ham’s top scorer, with no player yet to reach double figures for the club this term.

A raft of talented-but-injury-prone front men fill the squad at the Hammers and Slaven Bilic will hope a player of Lacazette’s ability can transform his side from a top-six challenger into a top-four hopeful.
