Shocking: Delph is biggest surprise in Hodgson’s England Squad

England manager Roy Hodgson had a couple of surprises up his sleeve when announcing his provisional England squad for Euro 2016 this morning but none more so than Manchester City’s Fabian Delph.

That is according to our latest poll which asked our Twitter followers to air their views on the announcement.

With Delph joined by Manchester United breakout star Marcus Rashford and relegated Newcastle winger Andros Townsend we asked you to vote for the biggest surprise and with almost half the votes Delph was the clear winner.

The former Aston Villa man has played just 30 games for club and country in all competitions this season and with the 26-year-old rarely displaying fantastic form 47 per cent were shocked to see his name among the 26 players still being considered for this summer’s tournament.

United man Rashford was next with 32 per cent, showing that while he has been a breath of fresh air at Old Trafford this season – with goals against both Arsenal and Man City – many expect the teenager to be forced to wait for some international exposure.

Townsend was third of the three and with just 16 per cent claiming his involvement was the biggest surprise it’s clear the former Spurs man has retained some fans despite the Magpies’ demotion.

Just five per cent said the biggest surprise was someone other than our offered trio and West Ham’s Michail Antonio is the man who can feel aggrieved judging by our comments section – which said the Hammers star missing out was the biggest shock.
