Rangers and Hibs to serve goals in historic Scottish Cup Final

Published:

For the first time in the history of the Scottish Cup, the final will be contested without a Ladbrokes Premiership side represented.

Although technically that is correct, with this year’s finalists both operating in the Championship this season, Rangers and Hibernian both come with a reputation far larger than mere second-tier outfits.

Indeed Mark Warburton’s men will be back in the top-flight next season, having landed the league title at a canter. They are favoured to make it a double with the cup at Hampden Park at the weekend.

Ladbrokes price them up at 17/20 to win in 90 minutes over Hibs, with Alan Stubbs’ boys at 16/5 and the draw at 13/5.

When looking for clues as to who will prevail there is little offered in the season’s previous meetings. Both sides won two of the four meetings, winning both games they played at home.

Dipping into the duo’s path to Hampden offers little separation either, with both entering in the fourth round, navigating an easy first opponent then claiming a spree of Premiership scalps.

Both sides bettered their biggest rivals en-route to the showpiece encounter too, with Rangers prevailing on penalties over Celtic in the semi-final and Hibernian beating Hearts in a fifth-round replay.

So with the winner far from obvious, it’s worth considering an investment in something more guaranteed; Ladbrokes’ 5/6 about there being over 2.5 goals in the game.

Four of the last five between the pair have landed a punt of this nature and three of those games were certifiable goalfests.

The last two battles ended 3-2 to Hibs and 4-2 to Rangers, while the Ibrox club also claimed a 6-2 victory in the League Cup. All of which came this season.
