Nothing can stop Liverpool in quest for Europa League glory

Step aside Sevilla. There are new Europa League kings in town and there’s nothing you can do to stop Jurgen Klopp’s rampant Liverpool outfit landing this season’s trophy.

At least that’s the prevailing opinion amongst our Twitter followers with 60 per cent of you backing the Reds to dethrone the reigning champions in two week’s time.

Cup competitions have provided the Merseysiders with plenty of moments to savour this term, not least in continental competition.

Dramatic victories against the likes of Manchester United, Borussia Dortmund and Villarreal have secured the Reds’ passage to the final in Basel and it appears even the might of four-time winners Sevilla will thwart their ambitions.

Spanish opposition may also prove a lucky omen for the Anfield club who last won this trophy – during its UEFA Cup days – with a memorable 5-4 victory over Deportivo Alaves.

However the Reds’ opponents have won this tournament in each of the last two seasons, beating Benfica and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk respectively.

That record has led to 40 per cent of voters backing the Spanish outfit to record an unprecedented third Europa League crown in succession.

Our traders have Liverpool down as favourites too, pricing the Reds at 7/5 to win the final in 90 minutes and 8/11 to lift the trophy in Basel.

Liverpool welcome Watford to the north-west for the Reds’ final home game of the season, with the hosts 8/15 for victory, the Hornets 11/2 outsiders and the draw priced up at 7/2.

And there’ll be a new trophy in the Anfield cabinet when fans return to the Kop next season, if the Europa League final plays out the way our poll has.
