Moving LVG to Director of Football would be horrid for Man Utd

The agonising over whether Louis van Gaal or Jose Mourinho is in the Manchester United dugout next season has gone on for so long, there appeared to be no new direction to take the story.
However, someone, somewhere has found one.
According to the Sun, the Red Devils have concocted a way of employing both men, with Van Gaal moving into a director of football role at Old Trafford and Mourinho replacing him as manager.
If such a switch is a genuine plan among the United board, it should be scrapped immediately.
As two of the more bullish characters in the game, asking the pair of tacticians to coexist would be a civil war waiting to happen.
Although much is made about how close the pair are, things are certain to turn sour once their ideals on how the United squad should look and perform are factored in.
After all, Mourinho would be inheriting a Van Gaal side that failed to deliver on expectations this season. If he were to decide that the majority needed axing, would the Iron Tulip take offence?
Judging by Van Gaal’s previous venture into the boardroom, he would.
The frosty relationship the 64-year-old has with Ronald Koeman came from the pair’s time as Ajax director of football and manager respectively.
Van Gaal wanted more involvement with the players, as is natural for an experienced coach, but Koeman resisted. It ended with the current Red Devils boss resigning after just one season.
Further historical evidence against shunting LVG upstairs lies in the Amsterdam native’s woeful transfer record at Old Trafford. Angel Di Maria, Radamel Falcao and Memphis Depay have all been costly flops under his watch.
